Alexander Prokhorov-Tolstoy is a Russian-American bass-baritone opera singer, Russian Romance Performer, stage director, producer, vocal method creator and vocal instructor, choral conductor, and composer. In Mr. Prokhorov-Tolstoy's repertoire are opera arias, art songs, old classical Russian and Gypsy romances, folk songs, and war-time ballads.
Mr. Prokhorov-Tolstoy is legendary for his candlelit evening of Russian and Gypsy romances. He is a connoisseur and collector of well-known, as well as rare and forgotten Russian and Gypsy romances, that he performs with his own improvised piano accompaniment.
Mr. Prokhorov-Tolstoy grew up in a family with rich cultural traditions. Among his relatives are writer Alexey Tolstoy (great-grandfather), poet of silver century, and notorious interpreter of Shakespeare, Mikhail Lozinski (great-grandfather), composer Dmitri Tolstoy, and many others. Literary, musical, and theatrical hobbies were a part of Alexander's childhood years and led him to pursue his artistic career. A graduate of Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory Musical College with a degree in piano performance, He also received a Master’s Degree in Opera performance at Longy School of Music and Boston Opera Institute.
Mr. Prokhorov-Tolstoy is the Founder and Artistic and Stage Director of the award-winning Commonwealth Lyric Theater in Boston, Massachusetts, where he has staged critically acclaimed productions of operas featuring world-class singers

Russian Pastries & Cookies
Traditional Russian, small, crunchy, mildly sweet bread rings eaten for dessert, usually with tea. The word sushki comes from the Russian “sushit”, to dry. It is customary to dunk your sushki in tea to soften it up.
An Eastern European pastry formed as a ring of dough with sweet Farmer's Cheese in the middle, sometimes with the addition of raisins or of fruit. Typically baked using a sweet yeast bread dough, our Vatrushka will receive a non-traditional but elegant flare, prepared in puffed pastry.
Pryaniki go back for centuries in the traditional Russian kitchen. These humble looking treats are flavored cookies that are glazed and usually served with tea. While they are commonly made with honey and spices, or with a mint glaze, we will be going another traditional route with Cherry and Vanilla glaze.
Russian Poppy Seed Roll
The poppy seed roll is a pastry consisting of a roll of sweet yeast bread with a dense, rich, bittersweet filling of poppy seed. It is popular in parts of Central Europe and Eastern Europe, where it is commonly eaten at Christmas and Easter time.
